BLS, ACLS & PALS Certification Near River North Chicago

Citywide CPR’s River North location provides AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS Self-Guided Skills Sessions. This gives healthcare professionals and students another option for completing required hands-on skills without necessarily attending a traditional instructor-led classroom session.

The general process is straightforward:

  1. Select the BLS, ACLS or PALS course that matches your requirements.
  2. Complete the applicable AHA online coursework when your selected pathway requires it.
  3. Schedule your Self-Guided Skills Session.
  4. Visit the Citywide CPR River North training location.
  5. Practice and perform the required hands-on skills using the appropriate training equipment.
  6. Successfully complete the applicable course requirements.

During the skills experience, the CPR Verification Station™ learning center provides real-time audio and/or visual feedback to help guide performance.

Self-Guided does not mean unsupported. Participants follow the system’s guidance throughout the skills experience, and Citywide CPR support is available if assistance with the session or equipment is needed.

BLS Certification and Renewal

BLS is commonly required for healthcare professionals and students, although the exact certification requirements can vary by employer, school, clinical program and role.

If you need both the online coursework and hands-on component, an Online + Skills pathway may be appropriate. If you have already completed the required AHA HeartCode BLS course, Skills Only may be the appropriate option, provided you meet the course requirements and can provide your HeartCode completion certificate.

You can review Citywide CPR’s BLS certification and renewal options before registering.

ACLS Certification and Renewal

AHA ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who need advanced cardiovascular life support training based on their role and applicable workplace or credentialing requirements.

Eligible participants can select the appropriate ACLS certification or renewal pathway. Depending on the course option, this may involve HeartCode online learning followed by a required hands-on Self-Guided Skills Session.

Citywide CPR provides ACLS certification and renewal information for participants comparing their options.

PALS Certification and Renewal

AHA PALS is intended for healthcare professionals whose responsibilities include responding to pediatric emergencies or who otherwise need PALS based on their employer, clinical program or professional requirements.

As with BLS and ACLS, participants should confirm the specific certification and course format required by their organization before registering.

Citywide CPR’s PALS certification and renewal options include Online + Skills and Skills Only pathways for eligible participants.

What Happens During a Self-Guided Skills Session?

A Self-Guided Skills Session is the hands-on portion of applicable AHA training. Instead of relying on a traditional classroom format, participants use the CPR Verification Station™ learning center to work through the required skills experience.

The technology provides real-time feedback during the session, helping participants understand how they are performing and make appropriate adjustments while they practice and perform skills.

For applicable BLS training, feedback can include CPR performance measurements such as compression rate, compression depth and chest recoil, along with ventilation performance where applicable to the course.

The technology is designed to provide feedback during the skills experience, but it does not guarantee that a participant will pass. Participants must still successfully complete the applicable course requirements and skills session.

Can I Complete My AHA Course Online Before Coming to River North?

For applicable blended-learning courses, yes. Citywide CPR offers Online + Skills pathways in which participants complete the appropriate AHA online coursework before attending the required hands-on skills session.

This can be useful for healthcare professionals, nursing students and other busy learners who prefer to complete the knowledge-based portion on their own schedule before coming to the training location.

Online coursework alone does not replace the required hands-on skills component when the selected AHA course requires skills verification.

Already Completed HeartCode?

If you have already completed the appropriate AHA HeartCode BLS, ACLS or PALS online course, Skills Only may be the appropriate registration pathway.

Participants should be prepared to provide or upload the corresponding HeartCode completion certificate during registration. An existing provider eCard or previous certification does not by itself replace the required HeartCode completion documentation for a Skills Only pathway.

Employers Can Send Employees to Citywide CPR

Employers do not necessarily need to coordinate every employee’s training in the same way. Depending on the organization’s needs, employees can attend individual Self-Guided Skills Sessions at Citywide CPR locations, while organizations may also request group or workplace training arrangements.

What Should I Check Before Registering?

Before selecting a course, confirm what your employer, school, clinical program or credentialing organization requires.

You should also determine whether you need BLS, ACLS, PALS or more than one certification, whether you are completing an initial certification or renewal, and whether you need Online + Skills or Skills Only.

If you are selecting Skills Only, make sure you have completed the appropriate AHA HeartCode online course and can provide the required completion certificate.

Finally, confirm that the River North location offers the course and appointment format you need. The River North location page provides current registration information.

What Happens After I Complete My Skills Session?

After successfully completing the applicable course requirements and skills session, your certification documentation is processed.
