A Look Inside a Citywide CPR Skills Session

If you’ve never completed a self-guided CPR skills session before, you may be wondering what to expect when you arrive. At Citywide CPR, healthcare professionals complete their hands-on BLS, ACLS, and PALS skills using American Heart Association RQI technology, allowing them to certify on a flexible schedule without waiting for a traditional classroom course.

What Happens When You Arrive?

After arrival, you’ll log in to your RQI account using the credentials created during your online coursework. The computer workstation will guide you through each required skill step-by-step, providing instructions and real-time feedback throughout the session. The process is designed to be straightforward and user-friendly, even for students completing a self-directed skills session for the first time.

Demonstrating CPR Skills

During your session, you’ll perform the hands-on skills required for your certification course. Depending on the course, these may include adult CPR compressions, ventilations using a bag-mask device, two-person CPR, infant CPR skills, and additional course-specific requirements for ACLS or PALS. The system provides immediate feedback on compression depth, rate, recoil, and ventilations to help ensure each skill is performed according to American Heart Association standards.

Practice Mode Helps Build Confidence

If you’re nervous about completing your skills session, there’s good news: the RQI system includes a practice mode. Before testing, students have the opportunity to practice their skills and become familiar with the manikin, equipment, and feedback system. During practice mode, you’ll receive real-time guidance on your compressions and ventilations, allowing you to make adjustments before beginning the test portion. Many healthcare professionals find that spending a few minutes in practice mode helps build confidence and reduces anxiety.

How Long Does the Skills Session Take?

One of the biggest advantages of the RQI process is efficiency. Most healthcare professionals complete their skills session in approximately 30 minutes. Because appointments are available throughout the day at many locations, students can often complete certification around work schedules and other professional responsibilities.

Why Healthcare Professionals and Students

Choose Self-Guided Skills Sessions

Many healthcare professionals prefer self-guided skills sessions because they allow for greater flexibility and convenience. Rather than waiting for a scheduled classroom date, students can select an appointment that fits their schedule and move through the session at their own pace. Benefits include flexible appointment availability, objective skills feedback, convenient locations, and reduced time away from work.

Need Assistance During Your Session?

Although the skills session is self-guided, Citywide CPR’s support team is available to assist if questions arise. If you experience technical issues or need help during your appointment, our team can provide guidance and troubleshooting support.
